A smile makeover can make you feel better and more attractive

According to a study recently conducted on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a new smile also "will make you appear more intelligent, interesting, successful and wealthy to others."

Here at Dr. David Crowe's office in New Braunfels, we can help you improve your smile, whether you simply want whiter teeth, or if you need to have your teeth repaired or straightened. Here are a few of the procedures that we perform in our office, most of which can be completed in two visits. While almost any dentist can perform these procedures, the key distinction is whether the dentist has the training and experience to consistently and predictably deliver what YOU are seeking.

Bleaching/Whitening
We can perform any number of procedures in order to remove stains that appear as a result of being a coffee, tea or wine drinker, or the discoloration that comes from age. Results will vary from person to person. Rarely, your teeth may become a bit sensitive at first, but after two or three days, the sensitivity will pass.

Bridges
A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth, and it is essentially a natural-looking false tooth that is anchored to its neighboring teeth via crowns -- creating a permanent bridge. Dental bridges can help improve your smile if you have any missing teeth, but perhaps most importantly, a bridge can help align your bite, improve your speech, help prevent gum disease, and even improve the shape of your face.

Having bridgework done may take two or three visits. With proper dental hygiene, a dental bridge can last up to 15 years.

Composite Fillings
These are fillings that mimic your natural tooth color, and they can be used to replace older metal fillings or to repair any tooth that is fractured or decayed and needs a filling. Composites are usually always used on front teeth so that the filling is not noticeable, but they are frequently used to repair back teeth as well. Like all fillings, composites are durable but not permanent, so they will need to be replaced eventually.

Crowns
There are many contributing factors that lead to needing a crown, also called a "cap." It could be a result of tooth decay, fracture, a root canal or even teeth grinding. As the name suggests, a crown covers what remains of your existing tooth. With proper dental care, a crown can last up to 15 years.

Veneers
If your teeth are slightly uneven, you have gaps between your teeth or if your tooth enamel is very discolored (beyond what might be fixed by whitening) or has been worn away, veneers may be the option for you. Veneers are very thin pieces of porcelain that are custom-made to mirror or improve the shape of your teeth. They are bonded to your cleaned teeth using a special cement that hardens with the beam of a special light. They are used primarily to improve the look of your smile, and in some cases are an alternative to crowns.
